A must for all visitors to Cartagena is the town of Palenque.  Palenque was the first free settlement for escaped enslaved Africans in the Americas.  It is nestled just outside Cartagena and is an UNESCO-recognized town.  Here you will have the opportunity to visit a local community as experience the culture and lives of its local residents.

As the sun sets, immerse yourself in Cartagena's vibrant nightlife, with live music, dance performances, and delicious cuisine at every turn.  Join a dance class featuring Afro-Colombian rhythms, where the beats of cumbia and champeta will invigorate your spirit.

Itinerary

Day 1- Arrival

On arrival make your way to the hotel or take the group hotel transfer at 2:00pm.  Later we will meet in the lobby to transfer to a local restaurant for our Welcome Dinner.

Day 2 -City Tour

Today we have an opportunity to tour both the Walled City and Getsemani.  Later, we will participate in a cooking class where we will learn the art of Colombian cooking. 


Later in the evening we will enjoy dancing and drinks at a local spot.

Day 3- Palenque

Today we will visit the town of Palenque.  The tour starts with a walking tour around the community of Palenque, a visit to a local home to learn about the family and their fruit-based candy business; interaction with the natives; a visit to the school of music and arts for a performance of a traditional music group and traditional dances.  We will return to the city after lunch.

Day 4 -Rosario Island

Today, after breakfast, we will spend the day touring the Rosario Island.  You will be able to take in the sun on a catamaran cruise and enjoy music, dancing and water sports at our stopped locations. Lunch will be served on board.

Day 5- Free Day

Today is yours to enjoy at leisure. Enjoy some optional excursions, free time at the beach or make an appointment to the spa.

Day 6 -Totumo Mud Volcano

Today we will have our optional excursion to the El Totumo Mud Volcano.   For those not attending the Mud Volcano, the day is yours to do some last minute shopping, enjoy some optional excursions, or enjoy the city at leisure.


Later, we will meet in the lobby of the hotel to transfer to the restaurant for our Farewell Dinner.

Day 7- Depart

Today we will say our goodbye's, exchange numbers, and depart for our home country. You will transfer to the airport for your flight home.

  • Is a Visa or passport required for Cartagena?

    US passport holders must have a valid passport for six months past their return date.  Also, Colombia Immigration application (Check Migracion) must be completed 2 to 3 days before arrival in Cartagena. All non-US passport holders will need to check requirements from their State Department or Governing Agency

  • What are the immunization requirements for Cartagena?

    Immigration requirements for US Passport holders can be found on the US State Department's website.

  • What is the arrival airport?

    The arrival airport is Rafael Nunez International Airport (CTG) between 11 AM and 1 PM.


    The group transport will depart the airport at 2 PM.

  • What is the departure airport?

    The departure airport is Rafael Nunez International Airport (CTG). The group transport will depart from the hotel at 11 AM

  • How will I commute from the airport?

    We will provide one group transport. If your flight is not within the group transport

    time, we can assist you with arranging a private transfer. Our support team can assist you with arranging a private transport from the airport as we approach the trip start date.

  • I have special dietary restrictions. Can you accommodate them?

    Most restaurants in Cartagena have a variety of food selections. Make sure to

    complete your participant information form prior to 60 days before the trip start date to inform us of any allergies.


    We have been able to accommodate Vegans, Vegetarians, Pescatarians, and individuals with shellfish allergies. We recommend that individuals with lactose sensitivity refrain from mousses or any cream and milk based dishes.

  • What are the available occupancy types?

    We have both Single and Double occupancy room types available.

    Double Occupancy is when two people share a room. The room will have two beds, typically twin sizes or one bed for a couple which will typically be a Queen size bed.


    Single Occupancy is when there is one person in the room. The room will consist of a Full or Queen size bed.

  • How does your roommate matching work?

    We can assist with roommate matching for individuals that choose double occupancy and don’t have a roommate.  We also advise you to use our Facebook Group to post your search for a roommate.


    Note: If you are not able to find a roommate match you will have to upgrade to Single Occupancy.

  • What are the available payment options?

    Available payment options can be viewed and selected at checkout from the booking page. Here you will also find the final payment due date.

  • Are the trips co-ed? What is the average age of the participants on the trip?

    Some of our trips are co-ed and the age range can vary between 25+ to 65+. Our trips are enjoyable for all and you will have free time and time to take in some optional

    excursions.

  • What is the typical group size?

    We specialize in small group travel and our tours typically have less than 25 people

  • Is the trip refundable?

    All of our trips are non-transferable and non-refundable. Our terms and conditions provides detailed info on our policies.

  • What insurance coverage is necessary?

    We advise all of our participants to purchase travel insurance, specifically “cancel forany reason” travel insurance. “Cancel for any Reason” travel insurance 

     will allow you to submit a claim with your insurance provider that can protect your investment in this trip. Links to travel insurance vendors are listed below.  A google search can also deliver some travel insurance providers.

  • When are finalized itineraries delivered?

    Finalized itineraries are delivered 30 to 60 days before the start of a trip.

  • How do you help prepare the group for the trip?

    We send out a series of emails with detailed information to assist each traveler. We ask that all travelers stay up-to-date on emails.  We also conduct at least two zoom calls to answer any questions and view the itinerary. The zoom links will be announced and delivered via email.
